Getting to Block Island from Rhode Island

By Ferry:

  1. Point Judith to Block Island: The most popular route is from Point Judith, Narragansett. The Block Island Ferry offers both traditional and high-speed ferries. The traditional ferry takes 55 minutes, while the high-speed ferry gets you there in just 30 minutes.

  2. Newport to Block Island: During the summer months, you can also take a seasonal ferry from Newport to Block Island. The ferry ride is about 1 hour and 30 minutes.

By Air:

  1. Westerly to Block Island: The quickest way is to take a short flight from Westerly State Airport, which takes about 12 minutes. New England Airlines offers daily flights, and it's a unique experience to land on the island's small runway.

Getting to Block Island from New York

By Car & Ferry:

  1. Drive to New London, Connecticut: The most common route from New York City is to drive to New London, which takes about 2.5 hours. From there, you can catch the Block Island Express Ferry. The high-speed ferry takes about 1 hour and 20 minutes, offering a quick and scenic route to the island.

  2. Drive to Montauk, New York: Another option is to drive to Montauk on Long Island, which takes about 2.5 hours. From Montauk, you can take the Viking Fleet Ferry, a seasonal ferry that operates during the summer months. The ferry ride to Block Island is about 1 hour.

Getting to Block Island from Connecticut

By Car & Ferry:

  1. New London to Block Island: The Block Island Express Ferry is the fastest and most convenient way to get to Block Island from Connecticut. The ferry operates out of New London, with a crossing time of about 1 hour and 20 minutes.

  2. Point Judith, Rhode Island: Another option is to drive to Point Judith in Narragansett, Rhode Island, and then catch the traditional Block Island Ferry. The crossing time is about 55 minutes on the traditional ferry and 30 minutes on the high-speed ferry.

Keep in mind that if you want to bring your car over to the island, you must book a reservation in advance and there is only one location to do this from - Point Judith, Rhode Island.
